See Guerra and Diaz Family Story (wmv file)
Help with Media Player Cynthia Guerra and her husband, Sheldon Diaz, are a self-employed couple from Little Village who work in real estate and run a neighborhood grocery store. Currently they have private medical insurance for themselves and their ten-year-old son, Sheldon, that costs $250 per month. However, their insurance only includes major medical coverage and they each have a $5,000 deductible. This means the family must pay $18,000 total out-of-pocket every year before their insurance starts covering their costs. Unfortunately, the family is unable to afford the cost of increasing their insurance to comprehensive coverage. Additionally, Cynthia cannot afford to have another child since her insurance requires she pay $200 extra per month for maternity starting at least 18 months prior to the pregnancy.
"Increasing access to affordable insurance is a great idea. Realtors have a really tough time paying for comprehensive insurance for themselves and their families," Cynthia said.
