As the price of private health insurance keeps rising, more and more small businesses are struggling to provide insurance benefits for their employees. Connie and Jack Beck, who own and operate a Decatur-based moving company, have felt these increasing costs affect both their family and their business.
After their family insurance premium increased to $1,600 per month, Connie decided to undertake another job at Milliken University to ensure comprehensive benefits at a rate they could afford. Unfortunately, the high cost of insurance has prevented them from making insurance available to their employees of their moving company.
Because of this, the Beck's are beginning to lose potential employees to larger firms that can afford the high price of private health insurance. If this continues Connie and Jack fear they will have to prematurely exit the moving business instead of selling it as planned when they retire.
